Reflections

PJ- Looking forward to the second site sampling; landowners have been very supportive and helpful

CH- We have found a lot of mussels this year and with the new site some of the largest found in the creek.

MF- I really enjoyed this class. We learned so much valuable information about the environment, water quality and many different organisms. My favorite part about this class is the West Virginia trip.

TF- I always enjoyed going to the rivers with the class and searching for mussels and

testing the chemicals. The West Virginia trip was the highlight of my school year.

DN- We could combine biotech with Environmental seminars

LC- I learned a lot about the environment and how simple changes can mess up an ecosystem, it was interesting learning how vulnerable animals are.

DB-My favorite part of the class was the West Virginia trip and was one of my favorite trips I took in all of high school.

NK- I had a lot of fun with this class, although I wasn’t always doing what I was supposed to. I dedicated as much time as I could during the West Virginia trip towards fossil hunting with satisfying results. That being said, when I was looking for mussels and doing water samples I had a great time. I loved going out and getting fresh air and this seminar was the perfect excuse.

SP- The West Virginia trip was so fun and getting to work on saving a critically endangered species is a one in a lifetime experience.

VC- The West Virginia trip was a great bonding experience and really helped us all get more comfortable with the chemical tests at the beginning of the year.

VS- I really enjoyed having the opportunity to get outside during the school day. Knowing that we are making a difference and helping this endangered species.

MM- I was pretty excited when I found my first mussel. Also I found an absolute unit of a  mussel towards the end of the year which was awesome.

WJ- Taking this class was such a great experience and opportunity and I’m going to miss it a lot next year. It was really cool to be learning so much about mussels and what goes into a stable and healthy environment in the river.

KC- This class has a great way of incorporating fun and education. I enjoyed freezing in the river while looking for mussels and collecting a benthic sample. And, like most others, I especially enjoyed the time we spent in West Virginia.

GD- I loved this class. There was never a dull moment at the river, combining fun with a hands on environmental learning experience is an awesome thing.
