Conclusions

P values

  • Comparing Rocky creek data by year for each month(ex. September 2018 v.s September 2019 rocky) 15 significant, 3 insignificant differences

  • Comparing buck mountain data by year for each month(ex. January 2019 v.s January 2020 Buck)19 significant, 5 insignificant differences

  • Comparing Rocky vs Buck by month(ex. September 2019 Rocky vs September 2019 Buck) 10 significant, 4 insignificant differences

  • Conclusion 1: When we compare Buck Mtn. and Rocky Creek between 2019 and 2020 there were 10 significant differences and 4 insignificant. The conclusion is that there has been a dramatic change in the chemical data over the course of the year.

  • Conclusion 2: When we compare Buck Mtn between 2019 and 2020 there were 19 significant differences and 5 insignificant. The conclusion is that there has been a dramatic change in the chemical data over the course of the year.

  • Conclusion 3: When we compare Rocky creek between 2019 and 2020 there were 15 significant differences and 3 insignificant. The conclusion is that there has been a dramatic change in the chemical data over the course of the year.

  • Conclusion 4: We shouldn’t reintroduce the mussels into Buck Mtn due to the significant differences in chemical data between it and Rocky creek. However, the data is very spotty. We also had a dramatic weather issue with this fall's drought, which may have skewed the data.

  • Conclusion 5: We recommend doing bimonthly testing on Buck Mtn next year.

Mussel Survey

We sampled Rocky Creek in August, September, October, and November of 2019 and April 2020. Our results were:

New STUN 0

New JRSM 32

New VICO Males 30

New VICO Female 27

New VICO sex unknown 1

 Recaptures  272

Benthic Data:

  • The number of Stoneflies was significantly higher than the number of Mayflies in every month except for February where the number of Mayflies was greater in Rocky compared to Buck

  • Rocky has a greater number of worms compared to Buck

  • In November Buck Mountain had significantly more organisms than did  Rocky; perhaps the effect of the drought.
